Help! I don't speak Dutch!
« Gepost op: 19 september 2003, 20:29:20 »
Many apologies for posting in English in this forum. I don't even know what the forum titles mean, so I might even be in the wrong forum. I'm a vegan, travelling to The Netherlands (Delft) at the end of October. I've been trying to find information about finding vegan food in The Netherlands, but not speaking Dutch, have not got very far. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if either there is a supermarket chain which labels food vegan if they are vegan, or can send a list of vegan foods through the post. Some of the supermarkets in the UK do one (or both) of these, but I don't know about The Netherlands.

Thanks in anticipation,

Ross Clement

We have a supermarket chain in the Netherlands which is called 'Natuur Winkel'.

One of this is in Delft:
Natuurwinkel Delft
Vrouwjuttenland 33-35
2611 LB DELFT
Telefoon: 015 - 2140777
Fax: 015 - 015-2158183
E-mail: info@natuurwinkel-delft.nl

Some of the food/products have labels with 'vegan' on it, but  employees of the shop can help you find the products.

In almost every supermarket you can find soy products like soymilk, cream, dessert and tofu.
The brand you can look for is 'alpro'. In supermarket chain 'AH (Albert Heijn) there is choice of 3 kinds of tofu for example.

When you want to go to a healthfood store you are best of in the city Utrecht, you can find about 6 or 7 stores there (adresses). SEM is the biggest and cheapest.
On wednesdays you can go to a vegan 'diner' in ACU. In Utrecht as well. 3 courses = 4,50 euro & all vegan and organic. Wedneyday present at 6pm, call to 030-2314590 (at 2pm) to make sure you can get a meal. There are initiatives like this in other cities as well, but this is the only one I have information of.
p.s. if you want to stay overnight in Utrecht (http://www.strowis.nl/).
